The Supreme Court on Friday issued notices regarding petitions filed by the West Bengal government challenging the actions of state governor CV Ananda Bose, who has delayed assent to bills by referring them to the President.
The state government claims that the governor has been sitting several bills passed by the state assembly for over a year without providing any reasons.
A bench consisting of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Paridwala, and Justice Manoj Misra has issued notices to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the secretary of West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose.
Senior advocates Abhishek Singhvi and Jaideep Gupta, representing West Bengal, argued that every time the matter was listed in the Supreme Court, the governor's office would refer the bills to the President, further delaying the process.
